Illinois State Senator
Debbie DeFrancesco Halvorson
(D-Crete)
is in her 3rd term as Senator for the 40th district which
includes areas of Will, Kankakee, Iroquois & Cook counties,
Illinois. She was first sworn into office on January 8,
1997. Sen. Halvorson was overwhelmingly re-elected on
November 5, 2002 to a four-year term that ends in January
2007.

Education
Senator Halvorson has:

Worked to increase standards for
high school graduation requirements in English, Math
and Science, and more testing for elementary and
middle schools.

Voted for $1.5 billion in
increased education funding in the last 4 years,
including annual increases for early childhood
education.

Fought to give more college
assistance to middle income families and expand
college assistance to the disadvantaged.
Working
Families
Senator Halvorson has:

Voted for workers compensation
reform that increases benefits for injured workers
and reduces costs to businesses.

Supported increase in state
minimum wage.

Supported a $25 million state
investment to promote alternative fuels such as
ethanol and bio-diesel to cut the cost of motor fuel
and reduce reliance of foreign oil.
Health
Care
Senator Halvorson has:

Passed laws to cover mammograms
and cervical cancer screening for high-risk women.

Passed tough lawsuit reform to
lower insurance costs and keep doctors from leaving
our area.

Fought for an affordable health
care program that helps small business offer health
care to their workers.

Expanded health care coverage for
working families through the Family Care, Kid Care
and All Kids health insurance programs.
Veterans
Senator Halvorson has:

Voted for a law to provide
affordable, high quality health insurance to
Illinois veterans who were cut by the federal
government.

protesters away from grieving families at soldiers'
funerals.
